Collection: Heritage
This was an innovative period where advances in mechanization led to further creativity in design and colour usage. Wall tiles were generally 6 inches in length (152mm). The trade accepted length is now 8 inch or 198mm, however the discerning buyer wishing to renovate as close as possible to original will choose 6 inch sizing.
Decoration of wall tiles was often in the form of transfer tiles or embossed tiles and often finished off with Bullnose cappings. Embossed tiles were manufactured using dust pressing techniques and when the glazes were applied the deeper areas became darker and the higher areas lighter giving a real three dimensional effect. Spraying colours onto the tile using stencils was another decorating effect creating a separation of colours. At Designer Ceramics our production methods have been modernized, however our attention to detail and hand decorating are still key factors in producing beautiful tiles to replicate the Victorian/Edwardian era.
